FRACKING MONDAYS 6-PART RADIO/WEB SERIES

FRACKING MONDAYS 6-PART RADIO/WEB SERIES

2012

Created, solicited funding and produced with a team - reporters, show host, videographer - a six-part multimedia radio/web series Fracking Mondays. Interviews with stakeholders: landowners, politicians, activists, economists, environmentalists and indigenous nations representatives. Radio shows were 60 minutes with edited cuts for video excerpts for YouTube. Commissioned stop action animationist Martha Cockburn to create PSA promo.

The work was initiated after doing multiple short news stories and realizing it would benefit from a larger discussion about the implications of whether New York State ought to fracking in the southern district of state where New Yorkers receive their water supply. I solicited a donor to fund the series as it involved a team of people. The music for the PSA was provided by a band that included Sean Lennon who didn’t know about the fracking debate and later became involved with his mother Yoko Ono in supporting a ban. The state eventually banned fracking in 2014.

The Chris Hedges Report, The Real News Network

Executive produced a two-part documentary The Long Road Home - featuring five former inmates in the New Jersey correctional system who collectively spent 119 years in prison. The documentary examined what happens to those released from prison “into a society where they face legalized discrimination imposed by numerous laws, rules and policies that result in permanent marginalization - often denied the right to vote, barred from receiving public assistance - including housing, and blocked from a variety of jobs. The hurdles are momentous, and is often why in five years, a staggering 76% return to prison.”

I managed the logistics for shooting in the field, plus working with the team, handled sound gathering, and assisted on the editing, and managed all the project expenses.
